Team section with blocks

Add a Person block per team member and the Team grid shows cards, a bio dialog, filters and a Book button, with no other setup.

The Team grid works two ways, chosen under Experts come from. This article is about the first: Blocks in this section, where you add one Person block per team member. It suits teams up to about forty and needs nothing outside the theme editor.

Person blocks

  • Photo. Portraits are cropped to a tall four by five frame, so upload portraits, not landscapes, with the face in the upper half.
  • Name, Role (Stylist, Colorist, Esthetician) and Location. Type the location exactly as you use it elsewhere so the filter groups people correctly.
  • Level (Senior, Master, Lead), Licensed since and Languages.
  • Specialties and Bio, both rich text. When a bio is filled, the card gets a Bio button that opens a dialog with the portrait, the details and the bio.
  • Instagram link.
  • Booking: Booking ID with Link type for a provider ID that books this person, or a Link to any booking page. With neither, the button books the section's Booking center ID or the default center. See Booking a specific expert.

  • Eyebrow, Heading, Intro text and Heading alignment.
  • Experts come from: Blocks in this section.
  • Columns on desktop 3 or 4.
  • Show filters with Location filter label, Role filter label and Level filter label. Filters appear once there are more than three people and more than one value to choose from. See Filters.
  • Booking center ID is used when a person has no booking link of their own.

Add one block per person. Nothing else is needed.

Every product in the collection becomes one expert card. Blocks are ignored while a collection is used.

When to move to a collection

Fifty blocks is Shopify's ceiling for a section, and editing forty people in the theme editor is slow. If your team is larger, or you want each person to have a page of their own, switch to the expert directory. The section keeps your blocks, so switching back is one setting.

A team section per location

Add a Team grid to each location page and fill it with that location's people. In blocks mode that means separate blocks per page; in collection mode one collection serves every page through Show only these locations.
